From lockdowns to vaccination roll-outs, and rebuilding economies, technology has played a key role in navigating COVID-19. Hear from Indonesia’s Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, and Head of WhatsApp, Will Cathcart, about what has challenged and inspired them in the last year and what innovations they see moving from us from pandemic to recovery.

Clair Deevy
Clair Deevy Director of Global Policy Programs, WhatsApp Clair Deevy was appointed as Director of Public Policy and Global Policy Programs for WhatsApp in 2019. She joined Facebook in 2015 where she was Director of Community Affairs for Asia Pacific and Latin America building out a team over three years. Working in the field of policy, communications, and community partnerships for more than 25 years Clair’s professional and volunteer experience includes work in Government, NGOs, the private sector, and corporate foundations. Previously with Microsoft for 10 years Clair’s spent most of her career there leading Microsoft’s Corporate Social Responsibility programs in Asia Pacific. With a passion for technology for Clair has developed programs focused on digital and financial literacy, community engagement, disaster response, NGO capacity building, and women’s empowerment. She focuses her work on creating cross-sectoral partnerships for sustainable positive social impact. In 2016 Clair founded Facebook’s #SheMeansBusiness Program, which has reached more than 1.5 million women around the world providing training, community, and support. In 2021 WhatsApp joined to program launching training in APAC and LATAM. In 2020 Clair began working on health partnerships and economic recovery programs to combat the impact of COVID 19. Clair holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Management, a Master of Management, is a qualified Partnership Broker and in 2014 was appointed an Ambassador for Women in Technology for UNWomen Singapore Committee.
Will Cathcart
Will Cathcart Head of WhatsApp
Will Cathcart is the Head of WhatsApp. In this role, he oversees the development and strategy for all WhatsApp products including consumer, business, and payments. Will joined Facebook in 2010 and has worked on a number of Facebook’s product efforts, including leading product development for News Feed and Facebook’s introduction of advertising into News Feed and on mobile. In 2018, Will was the Vice President of the Facebook App where he oversaw the development and strategy for all Facebook App products including Video, Groups, Marketplace, News Feed, Stories, and more. Before joining Facebook, Will worked at Google and was responsible for product development of anti-spam technologies for Google’s products, including Gmail. Will graduated from Colgate University with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematical Economics.
Budi Gunadi Sadikin
Budi Gunadi Sadikin Minister of Health Indonesia Mr. Sadikin began his career in 1988 as the Information Technology Officer at IBM's Asia-Pacific Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, and worked at IBM until 1994 culminating as Manager of Systems Integration & Professional Services. Subsequently, he joined PT Bank Bali Tbk. until 1999 and had held various managerial roles, including General Manager of Electronic Banking, Chief General Manager of the Jakarta Region, and Chief General Manager of Human Resources. Mr. Sadikin then moved to ABN AMRO Bank Indonesia and remained there until 2004. After completing his tenure at Bank Mandiri Tbk., he served as the Senior Advisor to the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises from 2016 until 2017 and afterward was appointed as the Chairman for PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Persero). Between September 2017 and November 2019, he was the Group Chief Executive Officer of Mining Industry Holding Company, PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Persero) which is comprised of PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Timah Tbk, and PT Freeport Indonesia as Holding Members. Currently, he serves as the Vice Minister I of State-owned Enterprises and is tasked to establish market-leading and globally competitive state-owned enterprises. Concurrently, as of July 2020, Mr. Sadikin heads the National Economic Recovery and Transformation Task Force amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia.
